Posture Information | Medical Back Support

Just because a healthcare professional hands you a posture device that you consider to be a medical back support, this doesn't mean that the
brace should be worn forever.
Hardly anyone visits their doctor when they're feeling good. They are usually in pain or some sort of a "health crisis." This is the time that
you take the medication, get the shot, or wear a brace.
In a crisis, the top priority is to stop the pain... not make you healthy. If the pain is stopped, then you can start taking preventative
measures that can help keep the pain from coming back again.
Wearing the medical back support gives your back the extra stability it needs during your time of crisis, but wearing it long term can cause
even more problems.
When the brace is on you, your posture muscles are receiving extra support because they are not able to work to the level that you need to
keep the back stabilized.
If you continue to wear the brace, they will grow weaker (since they are not being used). Get your back muscles too weak and you'll be forced
to wear the back brace indefinitely until you are able to build up your posture.
Follow your doctor's instructions, but get clear on what the treatment is doing for you in your moment of need so that you can make sure you
don't get to that crisis point any time soon.
