Posture Information | Posture Exercises

Does it really matter what type of exercise you do to improve your posture? Are there specific posture exercises? Of course!
Just as there are certain movements and exercises you would do if you were trying to get bigger arms, the same principle applies to posture.
You wouldn't tell someone how long you spent running on the treadmill to get bigger biceps, but many people tell me how hard they're working out
to improve posture.
I once had a patient that had been riding her bike to improve her posture. As she demonstrated the position she got in to ride her bike, she
realized that she may actually be making her posture worse!
Some believe that if they just lose weight their posture will improve. This is not the case. Posture exercises should be designed to improve how you sit, stand and walk. They should help you look better and feel
better.
Most "cardio" exercises are good for you, and while they won't necessarily make your bad posture worse, they may not really be doing much to
help it either.
The first step is to identify which posture issues you have. Is it just your neck? More of an upper and mid back problem? Take a look at your normal daily
activities. Posture exercises are really there to counteract the things that you do on a daily basis that are giving you the bad posture.
