What’s An Exercise To Improve Posture And Avoid The Dowagers Hump?
Many times, when someone is looking for an exercise to improve posture, they are hugely concerned about developing the dowagers hump. They saw their grandmother develop one, they ve watched as their mother s hump began to develop and they re sure they are next.
After all, they spend huge amounts of hunched over, why wouldnt they be on their way to developing a dowagers hump? If you really think about it, you start your day hunched over the breakfast table, then you probably hunch when you drive to work, spend the day needing an exercise to improve posture while you sit at your computer. Why wouldnt you need some help?
Virtually no activity you do during a typical day will help your posture, while most everything you do these days is starting you toward an inevitable situation. You don’t want it and I don’t want you to have the hump! The sooner you start, the better off you’ll be. The main issue here will be that once we’ve discussed what need to be done, will you do it?
The hump is really a combination of bad posture and osteoporosis. The osteoporosis you have some control over, but if you wait too long you will lose out on that too. Eat foods high in calcium and perform weight bearing exercise and you’ll be ahead of the curve. Your bone is kind of a “bone bank” and eventually your body will be making more withdrawls than deposits and there’s nothing you can do about it other than keep trying to make as many deposits as possible.
Posture is probably far easier to address, but no one wants to do it. They instead spend too much time looking for passive ways instead of an exercise to improve posture. The exercise sounds more difficult, but you only need to move a few minutes per day in the right way and in the right directions to counteract your daily activities.
Getting a brace, a support, or some special pillow is not going to undo eight hours in front of a computer. It may make you a little more comfortable while you sit there, but it can’t possibly undo your exercising yourself into bad posture. Sitting at a computer isn’t really “exercise,” but it’s you using the muscles in front of your body while the rest goes unused.
If your goal is to make sure you don’t come anywhere near developing the dowagers hump that your mother and grandmother got, you’ve got to take action. Working the postural muscles in the right way for less than ten minutes per day (if you do the right exercises) will be all it takes to make a positive change.
